Yet the local Spaniards do not seem to mind. Their city has remained unspoilt, largely untouched by mass tourism despite its bustling airport and rarely explored by sun-seeking visitors despite the city itself boasting vast stretches of sandy beaches. The beaches are, however, undeniably Spanish. That is, while the soft sand and the gentle surf of the Mediterranean is exactly the same as that found in Torremolinos , Marbella or Fuengirola , what lies in front of it isn't. There are no British cafes, Irish pubs, swish beach clubs or designer boutiques lining the promenade. The city's location at the foot of Spain ensures its weather is pleasantly warm all year round. In summer it gets hot, but not uncomfortably so like Seville, while winters are rarely cold. Instead, typical accommodation is likely to be found in the form of a normal apartment or flat in the numerous block towers that dot the skyline of the city. Busy and dusty roads circle the city, while pretty much every approach into the centre is characterised by wide, featureless dual carriageways that are dotted with square and uninspired low-rise flats, offices, car showrooms and traditional bodegas. The bus station connects the city with much of the rest of Spain, while every department store, supermarket, pharmacy and medical facility can be found here — all impressively modern, efficiently-run and easily accessible. The excellent Picasso Museum is one of the finest of its kind in Europe, while the faded majesty of the Alcazabar and the 14 th century Gibralfaro Castle hints at a history defined by battle and glory. The beautifully...

Take me to Costa del Sol Home. The Costa de Sol can be divided into two sections: East and West, with Malaga city at its centre. The eastern Costa del Sol is much shorter, stretching from the provincial capital as far as Nerja, where it meets the Costa Tropical of Granada province. The western Costa de Sol is the section of coast which curves round southwards towards Gibraltar, and includes all the major resorts such as Fuengirola , Torremolinos and Benalmadena , plus of course, the ritzy celeb-magnet of Marbella. This section has a very international feel, with visitors and residents from all over the world. The area is very lively in terms of nightlife and beach clubs, and has a buzzing atmosphere all year round. In addition to the Costa del Sol in Malaga province, a short section of this coast is, in fact, located in Cadiz province — the southernmost part, near Gibraltar. The eastern part of the Costa del Sol is less developed; it starts at the border with Granada province, whose own coastal area is called the Costa Tropical. This part stretches for 54km to the east of Malaga city, and is less developed than the section on the other side of the provincial capital. From Malaga eastwards there are cliffs up to m high where the Sierra Almijara joins the sea. The inside of the caves are also the location of the annual international music and dance festival! Just east of Nerja is a small but beautiful stretch of coastline, the most spectacular in Malaga province, which is protected. The Acantilados de Maro-Cerro Gordo Natural Area are magnificent cliffs with secluded coves and sandy beaches covering part of the shore between Malaga province and La Herradura in Granada province. The area's mild climate is the...

Hi,not familiar with Ben. I am looking at a hotel, that's 20 minute walk from marina and beside beach. The Marina area also has lots to do and busy. There are a few areas in Benalmadena for different types of "entertainment". The best thing is to pick up a map from the tourist information centre - a couple of the free magazines and papers and you'll see what's on offer. Some loud style bars there yes, but not a decent restaurant to be seen there. The "triangle" has loads of bars inland a street or 2. Reading the post it would appear to me that a Hotel has not yet been selected and to be truthful most hotels would be a twenty minute walk from the marina even the Pierre and Vacancies Principe if he got a step on,LOL. Mantalk as usual offers sound advice on the choices. It's not that far Bazza tbh, and certainly worth it as there is a good choice of cuisine's there. Very safe place to walk, especially late at night. The boardwalk is mostly full of either mobility scooters or baby buggies! Not rowdy at all so walk with confidence and enjoy the bars and cafe's. We stayed in the Sol Hotel on the East of the resort, which was a 10 minute walk in to the centre. This was up a lot of uneven tiled steps, which were slippery in the heat so must be a nightmare when wet. There was a back road that we found to walk up which was easier than the steps and not too steep. On our 3rd day, we found the lift which was 50 cents each way and was well worth the money. The centre itself was a mix of every type of restaurant you could require with plenty of shops not just the usual naff souvenir shops. There was also an unnecessary amount of fish spas where you were pestered every time you walked past to come in. The resort was not particularly clean, we saw the streets being jet washed once in the 10 days we were there. Given that the locals walk their dogs and allow them to do their business on the pavements, even when cleaned up it left residue on the surface which then encouraged flies. All in all it was a nice resort, but could do better. Torremolinos turned to be a much nicer place than we expected. It is tidy and clean. The central part is very pedestrian friendly, we could carelessly walk around and not bother of the traffic. Nice beaches too, though do not expect warm waters. I disliked the hotel they don't like brits there was nothing to like in the hotel it was dirty the food was just passible the entertainment was...
